I was just wondering because I thought they just live on their farms right? How could a disease spread to them?

Everyone gets sick. Even the Amish.

Well, of course, the Amish get sick. Just because a group is isolated doesn't mean that they are impervious to disease. And once one of them contracts an illness, it can quickly spread throughout their community. And they do have contact with outsiders. A non-Amish friend of mine used to hire Amish boys for farm work, for instance.

Of course they do. They are human beings and are subject to all of the diseases related to humans. Remember, disease can be caused by bacteria that are air borne. Also, just because the Amish live and work on their own farms, does not mean they never go into town or associate with their neighbors.

Chow!!

They sure do, and inbreeding is a big problem for them. Another group that is similar to them, the Hutterite I think, just had a polio outbreak with their kids because they were not immunized. I always thought that to work on a farm, one would need a tetanus shot.
I had heard that some Amish kept their sick relatives at home, but when things got really bad, they dropped them off at the emergency room entrance & left, but I just heard this, I'm not sure if this is true or not.

They not only get sick they suffer from a serious genetic disorder due to inbreeding. Look it up on the internet. I forget the name of the disorder. There was a documentary on television about it, and a Readers Digest had an article on it.
