On Amazon, you can either buy new items directly from Amazon.com or from amazon marketplace sellers. If you buy directly from Amazon, your purchase is guaranteed by Amazon. Usually if you buy from a marketplace seller, you have buyer protection too but there are some restrictions.

On ebay, you buy only from sellers registered with ebay - ebay acts only as the intermediary. You have buyer protection to some extent if you use paypal, the US Mail etc.

I use both sites a lot and the key is the seller rating. Amazon, ebay, half, overstock etc all allow buyers to rate the sellers. Before you spend any significant amount of money check out what other buyers have had to say about a seller. People who have been cheated are usually more than willing to let everyone else know.

One more thing: if you go to bid on an auction or check paypal and see a notice that the buyer is no longer affiliated with the site - that is a major caution. Do not send any money until you have emailed the seller and ebay or paypal for further information. (It could be something minor like the seller's backup credit card expired and has to be renewed).

Amazon is a company and has a set price for things. Ebay is an auction site. Personally I would choose Amazon.

Amazon is a commercial site. Ebay is an auction site.

Amazon, while more expensive, is safer to make purchases from. This site is actually a commercial retail site.

Ebay, on the other hand, is just a "middle man" site where just about anyone can list just about anything.

Good luck with your decision.

Well Ebay is a site where you can buy almost anything right from the seller. Amazon has a way to buy items brand new from many different retailers and/or to buy from sellers. I use both sites, but you should use caution when you buy from any site.

amazon(even though i like ebay a lot too)!
amazons safer because u can trust them
ebays probably as not trustworthy (depending on the seller)
if u do use ebay and wanna buy something check out the seller's profile and it'll tell you how many stars he has as well as satisfaction from his buyers

Amazon doesn't take PayPal. EBay does. Beyond that, I don't know, other than that you need a credit card to register with either one.
