its exisitence was on the pretense that blacks would become criminals if they did not have a ball in their hands to play with. this was a racist assumption and it implied that blacks are either up to no good or are only good at playing basketball and need the white mans help to stay straight.

I don't think that was the assumption... it was just getting the kids off the streets...

cause they made more money selling crack, and the (white) politicians didnt want to pay the electric bill for the court lights
