Well I would like to say that I am a woman, I wear colors, I do my hair, I am not a size 2 (who is after having two kids) I belong to the pta, and I have a minivan. My first metal album was Metalica's black album. My tastes range from Black Sabath to Alice in Chains. My kids named their soccer team thunderstruck. I have loved metal for about 16 years now.

I know a lot of girls who love rob zombie. I like System of a Down. Right now I am listening to radiohead then I'll play franz ferd. Metal chicks are out there. Go to a music store and ask the manager if they know some metal chicks.

There are lots of reasons.
Firstly, the image of metal is quite heavy, and very masculine.
There are also few female metal singers- most women listen to more female singers, or if they don't they choose male singers who seem fatherly to them. Its been proven that women choose men who are like their fathers, even the celebrities they like and the music they listen to.
Similarly, the music's message is usually quite agressive- much of the stuff I've heard talks about demons, blood and pain. This isn't going to get a female audience at all- women are typically emotional and most female orientated mmusic is emotion centred- even the female Goths that I know choose music that centres around emotional depression rather than the usual pain and suffering stuff.
There are also social expectations- women are expected to be kind, gentle and motherly/maternal. So metal music doesn't fit in at all!
Personally as a woman I prefer indie- it is easierto listen to and easier on my ears!

Well I am a woman and I listen to metal but here's my opinion on why more woman don't:
Many woman believe that to be accepted in our society they have to be perfect and preppy. They should wear colors and listen to poppy music, they should do their hair and fit in size 2 jeans. If they were to listen to metal then they believe they would not be accepted as much. They believe that they would have to wear darker clothes and darker make-up and they are just plain scared of getting killed in a mosh pit. Women today would prefer to dress preppy and listen to poppy music and get all the "hot" guys.
