I have a prom coming up and have no idea how to make my makeup look any good, I mean; sure I know how to look ok for a regular night out, but not for something like this. How can I make my make up look really nice? I'm nothing special and want to look pretty :)

First of all, pluck your eyebrows and stop picking your pimples at least two days before your prom- if you pick or pluck the day of your prom, it may get red and swollen and might not go away before the dance. Then pick a bunch of shades of eye shadows in light and darker colors in naturals or colors that look good with your dress (yet look good on you too!), some water proof mascara, eyeliner that matches the eyeshadow you have. Get a good concealer and foundation that matches your skin tone, a nice peachy blush, and some lip liner and lipstick in your color choice. You can get some cream glitter to help make you look a little flashier- some alternatives to your typical glitter is gold cream, or a powder with a glitter in it.

Start out doing your foundation and concealer like normal, and then lightly line your eyes, and smudge it a little. For a wilder look, extend your eye line (unsmudged) a little ways past the corner of your eye. Then take the darkest shadow and use it as liner on the top of your lids- blending it into your lash line. Take the next darkest shade and line the crease of your lid- smudging it a bit- take the most vibrant color you have and apply it between your lash line and your crease. Then take the second lightest color you have and go up to your brow bone( Note: your brow bone is not your eyebrow- it's where your eyeball and ends and right below your eyebrow). Take the lightest color you have and very lightly brush it over your entire eyelid. Then apply your mascara.
Now lightly apply blusher to the apples of your cheeks (Smile while you do this to get the right look)

Then do your lips- if you went very simple for the eyeshadow and blush colors- try a vibrant color like a bright red or plum. First line your lips in a flesh toned color and fill in your lips with the same color pencil- then take a lip brush and start filling in your lips- start from the middle and apply outward. You may need to apply another coat of lipstick- between coats blot your lips with a one-ply tissue. If you mess up- take a mini-marshmallow and rip it in half, then wipe of the excess moving towards the lips, I know it sounds weird but marshmallows work better than tissue! If you don't have any marshmallows- us a q-tip.

When your done with your lips take the finishing touch- the glitter- now in order to avoid looking teeny-bopish always LIGHTLY apply it! Start by applying some the area between your brow bone and your eyebrow to highlight your eyes, then apply it to your temples and one the high part of your cheekbones if you wish. If you're feeling particularly bold, apply a clear gloss on top of your lipstick and then brush some glitter on top of it! If your dress is spaghetti straps or strapless- brush some on your collar bone and shoulders.

If you really want to stand out above the rest- opt for some very simple earrings- pearls or studs or small hoops, and use stick on jewels in an elaborate necklace design or add some to your temples - don't be afraid to try something new- if you have time and it doesn't clash with your dress or skin tone- try getting a simple henna tat to in the shape of an armband or bracelet.

Go to a department store cosmetic counter and have them do a trial run of a night time look and learn the tricks from them...just watch out for the sales pitch...you may have to make a small purchase...you may even be able to do it the night of your big event...but I would try it first...

go to a dept store and have a makeover the day of your prom. All you usually have to do is buy two products and they'll do your makeup

lots of places like marshall field's or macy's or jcpenney's will have professionals do your makeup for you. or maybe your hairdresser knows someone who is a makeup artist who could do your makeup for you so that you can get it just how you want it. and i'm sure you are something special, so dont say that about yourself!

Go light! Make up isn't everything, but you should use CETAPHIL if you have dry skin. Don't go heavy on the make-up, but instead, do facialtreatment before, put lotion on days before...
