Depends on speaking or singing. Most people speaking tend to do so with in about 1/2 an octave range, unless excited and their voice gets higher when screaming.
As for singing, the average person generally sings at the 1/2 to 2 octave range, and even trained opera singers aren't usually required to do more than 2 octaves.
A person who trains to sing professionally can increase their range and 3 octaves is excellent. Apparently it is possible to achieve 4 octaves.
One of the greatest voices of the last century was Marian Anderson and her range was three octaves. She could sing from baritone to soprano.

I believe its 1 1/2 octaves. Pat Benatar is 3 1/2 octaves, and Mariah Carey 5 1/2 octaves.
By comparison, a guitar is 4 octaves.

most people can comfortably sing notes within the interval of a tenth which is an octave plus two (including half steps).
a trained vocalist can usually sing 3 octaves using different registers of the voice but there are some who can even sing 4 believe it or not.
mariah carey can reach that wonderful whistle register!

The normal is somewhere between two and three. Exceptional singers have about a 4-octave range.

Personally, I have a range of about 2 octaves. That's with vocal training. So your average person, with no vocal training, probably has a range of about 1 1/2 octaves.
The age of a person also influences their range. Boys have a very limited range while they go through puberty, but before and after that it's larger.

In London last week a new voice was making news. It belongs to pretty, pencil-slim Jennifer Johnson, 23, and its useful range is an extraordinary 4½ octaves, or everything from bass to soprano.

i would say about 1 and 1/2 to 2 octives. Because i am in a choir and Depending on who you are most good singers can sing 2 octeves but it would be really hard to sing more! and 1 octive is very easy so one and 1/2 would be how many octeves a normal person can sing
