was using J&J bedtime soap and had no prob...was out of town and used a diff J&J soap and she started to break out but I also washed clothes in reg detergent there too. Because she was broke out I then switched to Aveeno moistorizing (supposed to be frag free and good for excema). DR said she had an allergic reaction to something or may be irritated by our clothes. I have started using dye and frag free soap for us, dreft for her, but not sure of what is the best soap to wash her with.

Would stay with something that has aloe in it, I think. Buy small sample sizes until you find what will work. I always loved the smell of Baby Magic. Used it for myself, too, when I was traveling.

Hope things clear up, soon.

Try your natural foods store or organic market. They will have a product called Dr Bonner's Soap for Babies. It is wonderful! And all natural. They should have other products as well to choose from. Try a Chammomile tea bath, that may help her immensley. Start with a cup of hot water in the microwave with the tea bag. Let it steep for at least 5 minutes, that will give it time to cool way down too. Then start the baby's bath. Just add the tea to the bath water. It is very soothing and enjoy the scent too. It will calm you and her skin. Best of luck dear, and congrats on your new love. Nana

Many mother over-use soaps detergents and fragrant stuff on the baby things. Use a tiny amount of baby wash (plain) in warm water, use a regular cotton washcloth to wipe her skin with. Do not rub, do not keep her in the water more than 10 minutes, Dry her with cotton towels. The baby towels and washcloths should be laundered in hot water with half the detergent shown on the bottle. Do not use softeners. Dry in dryer. They should not smell "fragrant" they should smell plain towel-y, with no scent. Do not use too many cremes, lotions, powders etc. Baby's skin are sensitive to these, they also don't like fragrances the way we do. Baby do not "stink". They actually have a good scent. It's the poo that stinks. So keep her clean and dry and un-scented.
You will both be happy!

I had really bad eczema as a child, adolescent and young adult. The only soap that didn't irritate my skin as a baby and child was Ivory soap. My mom used the bars to wash my skin and and liquid detergent to wash my clothes.

Lately, I've been having difficulty finding the detergent. I've had really good luck with All Free and Clear.

Hope your child's allergy clears up soon...

A lot of practitioners and mums I have spoken to, and myself, agree that babies don't need soap at all. It's quite harsh on their skin. To dissolve excess skin oils and swipe away bacteria, just use some plain sorbolene-glycerine moisturiser. It costs almosts nothing and is really all your child will need for at least two years or so. Soap is quite unnecessary and removes all the friendly body bacteria and natural skin oils that kids and adults actually need to have healthy skin.

If you really want to use soap, I suggest you find some that is made of 100% olive oil. It's quite common and cheap and is nearly as safe as the sorbolene.

My baby had this problem use aveeno and then as soon as you get her out of the bath pat her face dry and put vasoleen on her face it will make it look worse at first but you will see a difference in a week, every night put vasoleen on her. my baby is now a year old and still has perfect skin

You might try switching to a body wash like Dove. We had to do this with my middle child. He has horrible eczema and baby soaps just made it worse.

Dove is generally the best for babies or for people with skin that's prone to allergies or eczema
