Some colleges have "early admissions." For those, yes, it is time to begin creating, preparing, and polishing your applications. For those colleges, however, that do not have early admissions, you can wait until around April to begin.
However, it is _always_ time to be planning on what college(s) to attend, and preparing your school schedule and other activities to best make a great application!

First, go to the guidance office in your high school and talk to the counselor. I hope that will be useful, although if you are this clueless about the process, he probably isnt doing a very good job.
IT is NOT too late, but you dont have a lot of time to spare. You can search on line for all the schools you are thinking about. Their websites will have the correct info about applying. For a lot of schools you can apply right on line in a matter of minutes. but you need to get reference letters from teachers and guidance counselors, etc and that takes time.
The schools that have Early Decision need a complete application by about Oct 15 - Nov 1 - that means everything in their hands by that date. But if you are just applying regular admission, you have until Christmas. And even after that, if the school you are applying to is not very competitive, you can probably apply any time before September and get admitted, but you will totally lose out on any kind of scholarships and loans, and in some schools you will not be able to get a dorm room, or youll get a room that really sucks.
Better get it together, but dont worry, you are not late yet.

Well, if you are a high school senior, I would say its definitely time to start thinking about your top choices and finding out when their deadlines are. Websites like www.commonapp.org can be very helpful, as well as the college board website: www.collegeboard.com Although most application deadlines are in january or febuary, if you are thinking about applying for honors programs or for early action/ early decision, many of those deadlines are within the next two or three months. Your school guidance counselor should be able to help you keep everything straight. Just don't panic!

apply now, the sooner you commit to a college, the better dorm room you get. I managed a corner room that was 50% larger because i was among the first 10 kids admitted!

I depends on what and where you want to go. Some colleges have different deadlines than others, and you can apply for certain classes year round.
