Well if you want to copy a cd your computer will so that NP! But for a dvd you have to get some new software. The best was 321 Studios DVD X Copy but after all the new laws and what ever they stoped selling it. There are a few other places that still sell that type of program, trying to cram befre the rush, but I will not swear how good they are. I have kids. We go through DVDs like crazy. Back-ups are the only way I have to keep the movies they really like from being destroyed.

yup, I do...

First, go to http://www.doom9.net and have a look around.

Download DVD Fab Decrypter here: http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

Use that to rip the DVD to your harddrive.

Then download DVD Shrink here: http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Vobtools/dvdshrink32setup.zip

use that to compress your DVD files to fit on a standard DVD.

If you want to compress it even more (to fit on a CD) you'll need to convert the format of the video file. For that I use two different programs,
VirtualDub (here http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/virtualdub/VirtualDub-1.6.12.zip?download)
AVI Synth (here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/avisynth2/, and the
DiVX codec (here: http://www.divx.com/divx/download/).

This site is a great resource for all you need to know about video ripping. almost all of the software is free, and they have very informative tutorials on how to use it. They also have a good forum to get all your questions answered.

Jave fun
