My fave Elton song is "Your Song". The lyrics are so simple but beautiful. When i first met my fiance at college he asked me what my fave song was, at the time we were just friends, i gave him a tape of it and he played it to me on Valentines day and told me he was in love with me. At the moment he is away but whenever he calls me he sings it to me.

Mona Lisa's and Mad Hatters.
even back in the 70's the corporate suited demons were beginning their takeover of humankind and this song exposes them for the heartless, ruthless dictators that they were (and would become. Bush, Blair et al).
from the opening line ' now i know, Spanish Harlem are not just pretty words to say'. it shows how he decided he wouldnt be told what to do and went out into the world to see things for himself and form his own opinions on the surrounding environments.
this is, of course, before he was possessed by the demons and started writing songs like 'nikkita' and 'i was made in england'
it happened to elton, and bowie and jagger and all those others who made it past 1st january 1980.

Being working in Argentina I used to listen "Cold As Christmas, in the middle of the year" song which was released in Too Low For Zero Album. It was the months of July-August, It remembered me about my family and home who were in England. I said once what a cold is in here these days and a co-worker brought to me the CD to my surprise.
That's why I love this song.

Song For Guy which is an instrumental....

it's very haunting and was written by Elton in memory of Guy Burchett, a motorcycle messenger for Rocket Records who had been killed in a road accident.
