the game is called igo in japan, wen chi in china. and is played through out asia and other places with less intensity

You can learn from a book or the internet. You can also play on internet if you cannot find a club. Best to have a friend or two that wants to learn also. See the links below for trules, places to play and general description. As you say, in Japan it is Go (or igo), in China it is Wei-chi and Korea Baduk. Japanese professional players have travelled widely as good-will ambassadors and you might find out about such trips from a nearby club but you need to already be good to take advantage.

Go to yahoo games and go to Go. Pick which room you want to play in.Make it a busy one. Ask on the first page you open if anyone will teach you how to play.There is usually someone willing..Be sure to open table with no rating till you learn how.Good Luck!
