Has anyone ever taken several pregnancy tests well after your period was due, have them all come out negative, and then find out that you were indeed pregnant? If yes, then do you know what caused the consistently negative results (besides testing too early). I have heard of someone testing consistently negative when they were 6-7 weeks pregnant, and finally testing positive when they were 8 weeks pregnant. This person was fanatical about charting temps and ovulation so they definitely did not have their dates messed up. Any similar experiences?

When I was 8 months pregnant with my first baby my cousin and I thought we would play a trick on her husband by me taking a home pregnancy test and saying she took it. The test came out negative!! 2 weeks later I delivered a healthy baby boy. THeyre not 100%.

Pregnancy tests measure the amounts the pregnancy hormone HCG you are making at the time, either in your urine or blood. Most women make a small amount of this hormone all the time, so the pregnancy tests have to measure a certain level of HCG before they will give a positive rating. Women who do not recieve a positive pregnancy test frequently are not making enough of the hormone to register. Also, some women don't use the tests correctly. The mornings first urine contains the most hormone, and will test positive the soonest. A blood sample is more reliable because it tests for a smaller level, and is done by your doctor. HCG usually rises extremely fast in early pregnacy, though some women have to wait longer for a positive result.

The pregnancy test measures for a certain hormone in the urine - low levels of this, or very diluted pee (sorry for the too much info) may cause a negative test. A blood test should be confirmative

If your hcg levels are low then it is possible to be pregnant and receive a negative result on your test. However, blood test are a lot more accurate than urine tests. Don't forget to check the expiration date on the over the counter test you are using.

With my first, I was almost three months along before I FINALLY got a positive result at the doctor's office. My mother kept telling me I was pregnant - LONG before the tests finally showed positive. She could see the changes in my body. I never looked at me from behind... LOL.

Good luck!!

some women produce low pregnancy hormones, that's why it doesn't show on the test.
