The lumps are common and they don't go away! so you have to decide if you think it is worth it. Try one of those temporary ones for a while.

Yes it hurts, but more in the soreness while healing than the initial piercing.

The lumps are not as common as people would have you believe. They're generally keloids, which are when the body is healing and forming scar tissue and doesn't quite know when to stop (over-simplifying, but that's the gist). Factors in getting keloids are ethnicity/skin pigment...darker complected people have a tendency to keloid more frequently than lighter complected people...though there's no guarantee on either. It is also likely that if family members have had them occur, then it's likely that you could have that tendency, too. As always, nothing is guaranteed.

One way of checking is to take a look at any past cuts you may have gotten and what kind of scar has been left behind as a result. Is it just a light line, a broad bumpy line (I compare it to stretched bubblegum), smooth, raised, etc.

The lump may also be a result of how it was pierced and the healing process. There's the possiblity that the hole may have been too tight and the skin didn't properly heal around the cartilege. Proper needle to jewelry sizing makes a difference.
As far as removing it, a cosmetic surgeon could take it off in a quick outpatient visit...or if you're feeling adventurous enough with an x-acto knife (kidding).

if you get it pierced then it will hurt obviously but not a lot but if you take care of it then it shouldnt get a bump and the only reason why your sis ter got a bump was probably because she didnt take care of it properly.
