Afraid its just hype, the big indian citys are slums that lack even the basic infrastructure. A recent visit to mumbai brought this home to me the airport is surrounded by shanty towns. The country is over populated by 5 times the amount of people its resources can sustainwith the population is set to grow from 1.2 to 1.9 billion in the next 30 years the problems will get worse. Cows wander the streets as they are sacred in hindu law, beggars harass people. Yes China has the upper hand it is more organised and will take Indias share of resources. The indian goverment are incapabale of harnessing becoming first world as the people would rather remain in poverty, they arent prepared to open their markets to outside forces so they will always be on the outside looking in im afraid. In a hundred years time cattle will still be wandering about and the world will have moved on again.

It has the potential. But please look at how quickly we are excited about China and India becoming this powerful economic "force to be reckoned with". Did we learn nothing from colonialism except to beat them at their own game? Tit for tat, is that the best we can do as an emerging global civilisation? Where is the economic Gandhi?! Where is the voice of Mother India calling the world to a different vision than greed, exploitation, and endless competition at the expense of the poor?

Ancient nations do not survive through weakness, l believe that this great country was derailed by the imposition of western values, and has taken an age to regain its identity, it is a feature common now to many countries, who are feeling thier feet and finding a voice this cannot be surpressed even by force of arms.
We should look forward to a model that will not be based on the traditionally dominant western view point, we need to understand this, this need not end in conflict though, since there is no purpose served by war....save to damage economic wellbeing...though if that were to happen, it is the country and nation that can and has survived at a subsistence level that will outlast those that rely too heavily on technology

India is already a super economic power. When the Indian bank threatened to join China Brazil to make alternative world Bank America trembled. The size of its population gives it market resources that the Western produces use to supply western markets, the added value generates disposable income for Indians there by enlarging their internal market. The Americans have used military armament to fuel their economy the Indians use globalisation. That's why the Americans make bad Wars and Indians make good suits and will only get bigger, until the Americans create another global conflict.

Yes - they sure do - In a wee while no-matter what country you are in - when you make a call to a companies help line ..eg: your bank, phone company etc..the call will be out-sourced to India.. the Indians are a sensible lot - they have clocked on that it is time to Westernise..and leave the madness of religion behind.. look at the state of its neighbour Pakistan.. dogged down by religious fruitcakes.. I am even considering visiting India to check it out..

I think its potential is real and massive. The Indians I have met in business are very hardworking and as sharp as can be, what's more they are hungry for it; having being royally ripped off and oppressed by the British Raj they won't ever let it happen again. Many middle class Indians speak and write English better than many English people and their schools are better run and safer. They're self sufficient in food and unlikely to waste precious resources on foreign crusades. They are going to steam ahead!

Yes completely, they have the biggest population of any country (unless it's china) and they have opened their barrier with China. If it gets on the right side of the Chinese government, who knows what could happen. Also they seem pretty exempt from obligations with fossil fuels as they are still a developing country. If it continues to develop as a nation without exploiting their inhabitants too much, we should be afraid. Cheap labour and all that!
