I am looking at my calendar beside my computer and September 23 is the fall equinox, that is usually considered the first day of fall to North Americans. Season changes generally fall on the 21st, but isn't the same every year, AND fall is usually the later one. This year it is the latest it can be.

This link shows the days from 1980 to 2009.
