When I was little the pub was a place for adults and I always had to sit in the beer garden while my parents got p.issed. I didn't mind because they bought me lemonade and crisps. But I went to a pub today and there were screaming kids everywhere. It was horrible. I'm not going again.

Absolutely not! It was the ruination of the British institution of 'pubs' when this ludicrous practice stated. It's either a pub or a restaurant (where kids are perfectly ok and welcome) but pubs should be a haven, a place where adults can convene and escape from the pressures of screaming kids.

Ahh, but when I take the kids to the pub, we always sit together in the beer garden. But the places I go to aren't real pubs. Well not anymore. Not now they've got restruants, games machines, pool tables, and even bouncy bl**dy castles in the garden.

What you need to do is find a REAL pub. This will be hidden away in some back street somewhere. It will be full of old geezers playing dominoes and drinking bitter. They'll all be drinking out of tankards with their name on and the barman wont have to ask what drink they want when they go to the bar - he'll know. The pub itself will be no bigger than your own living room. Regardless of the season, there will allways be a fire on. On certain days, they'll have a little quiz or bingo, and then the pub will hand out free cheese sandwhiches (perhaps if there was a good night it would be ham). There wont be any teenage lads or half naked girls in there, except if they're someones grand-kids and they're respectable or respectful. There will definitely be no kids.

Not after a certain time. I manage pubs and i have very strict rules on this. Adults come out to relax after working hard. Some stupid ones shout, swear, flash there bits, get rowdy and on a bad night you can get fights and arguments. It is no place for a child and it's no wonder so many children behave the way they do if this is some of the behaviour seen on a regular basis.

However up to around 7pm i think is fine as long as there parents look after them. (some parent let them run wild and i think this is why so many say no)

I also think that the drinking age in the uk should be raised to 21.

Hi! Just out of interest, you sound English. All my relatives live in England. Pubs and crisps are typically English.
Now to answer your question. No I don't think children should be in pubs.Children don't need to watch their parents getting drunk or see anything else that goes on when some adults get drinking to much. Also if children are waiting to long being who they are can get pretty impatient waiting to go home.Parents may not handle the situation in the same manner they would if they were sober and yes like you it could be very annoying but not blaming the children. It's not their fault because they are bored and start acting up.
There will be plenty of time for them to be in pubs when they are old enough. For now keep them out into a safe and clean environment.

Depends on the pub. In West Chester, PA, there is a pub that's children friendly. You know the minute you get there that kids are there, so if you want a no-kid environment, you go elsewhere. Maybe you should look for a different pub. Good luck.

YES. Screaming Kids? what about the screaming adults more usually to be found in pubs. Pubs should be genuine 'PUBLIC HOUSES' I.E. FOR EVERYONE - THE PUBLIC! It must be against the human rights act to discriminate against people on grounds of age (All Bar One say No under 21s for example). Are children included in the Human Rights Charter? they should be.... also effectively pubs discriminate against families. It is the ethos of the (vile) pub that needs changing then children of 'alcoholic' parents would not be left to scream about the place. Kids are welcome in bars in the rest of Europe hence you don't get (vile) people 'out on the piss' there unless of course they are immature Brits! Normal bars there sit you down and wait on you at table, they do not force alcohol down your throat - as is the case here - even if you are already drunk, which is supposed to be illegal. I want hot chocolate and coffee at any time in a pub - but of course it's not so profitable for the 'landlord' (a word and image I hate) if you are not getting pissed is it? So they are allowed to turn the coffee/choc machines off which is why MOST pubs are such vile macho places with no sense of decorum or sophistication! So stick that in your pipe and etc etc... vile vile vile!

I don't think children should be allowed in pubs, especially if it's a proper pub and doesn't even have a restaurant.

They shouldn't really be exposed to that environment, and other patrons shouldn't be subjected to children screaming and running around when they have come out to socialise in adult company.

It really p.isses me off if i am honest.

no alcohol and young children is a dangerous mix and not the environment for kids they should not be exposed to any kind of danger it only takes one tit with a few to many drinks and if it kicks off the child could be hurt or at the least mentally scarred by what they see in fact maybe all bars should be 21 because some of the teenagers in pubs cause most of the trouble.

Good God no. If I'm doing out for a drink with my friends the last thing I want to have to put up with is some snotty little brats running around while the parents are getting piss drunk.

It's bad enough to have to go to a restaurant and deal with that, but at a pub, kids should NOT be allowed. I agree with you, they are annoying and pesky, and if I want to say the "f" word, I don't want someone giving me a dirty look because their little Johnny heard me say it.

If parents want to entertain their kids, let 'em go to Chuck E. Cheese, but keep them away from me!!
