There is a product in the States called Iron Out, which works well on surfaces.

Anything acidic is what is used on rust. You can set the plug in the sink, put a little water in, and pour in some vinegar or lemon juice and let sit.

However, the old standby is to squirt a little ketchup on the rust stain and let it sit. Or (now here's an oldtime remedy!) put in the plug and pour a can of cola in (it's the acidity in it) to sit overnight (by the way, this is a great way to clean a toilet with rust or mineral stains -- pour it in and let it sit overnight).

You didn't mention what kind of sink you have (porcelain, stainless steel, etc). A gentle abrasive in a circular motion can work -- the "old' way is to cut a lemon in half (there's the acidity) and sprinkle some borax (or baking soda) on it and rub the stain.

The biggest mistake you can do is to try to bleach it. Bleach sets a rust stain.

I would use Old Dutch cleansing powder or Comet.
It will get rid of that rust from your sink rather easily.

If it is a stainless steel sink, put onto a pad of cotton wool a little lighter fuel (honest) the mark will come off.

There is a great product called, simply, RUST STAIN REMOVER. Made by a company called "whink". I have never seen it fail.

Read the instructions, though ~
