The casting number is on the back of the block right behind the driver side head.
The serial number stamped in the deck surface right in front of the passenger side head.

more than likely your motor has truck heads for low end torque but depends on what year, and probably has dish pistons for low compression and low horse power. if its an older motor you can take off a valve cover and "truck" will be cast on top of the head. small valves,low compression, low horsepower, but should work because the 396 came on line in 67.

pretty sure it is located on the deck of the block left side right where head and block mate together.
