I just quit a job that I worked for 3 days. Among my cheif complaints was that the shifts were 7 hours 5 days a week and a few hours on Sat. This meant that I was only intitled to one paid 15 min. break a day plus an unpaid 30 min. lunch. I think a job should give an hourly employee a break every two hours but I had to come in at 7am and work 'til 9. Take a paid 15 min break and then work from 9:15 to 12 noon without a break and then work from 12:30 to 2:30pm. I know it may be legal but is it right? I didn't know it would work this way when I agreed to take the job. I thought she said the hours were from 7:30 am to 2pm not 7am to 2pm...lol...I heard what I wanted to hear I guess!

You can gripe, but this is the work world. You are paid to work, not to take breaks every two hours. Maybe it's a job that is too boring if you require that many breaks (bathroom breaks don't count, those are freebies). If you mean, do you have grounds to file a formal complaint, no, you don't, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the shift as you describe it. Put it in perspective - there are sweatshops where children work 12-15 hour days for pennies with NO breaks...

The law is that they only have to give you one 15 minute paid break every 4 hours worked. If you work 7 hours a day or more they are required to give you a 30 minute unpaid lunch somewhere during that period.

You have no idea of real life, and how really hard working people actually work for a living.

This sounds fairly cushy, many times I have had to work with no breaks or lunches when on the police deprt

If you are looking only at breaks and benifits and not be happy to have a job, you won't ever find one that is good.

I would say go work at McDonads a few weeks , then you will be happy for a place like you just left.

Look in mybook, all gripe is legit. LOL. do u have union at work? look at your contract...what does it say,? usually for 8 hours work u have 2 (15) minute break, a 30 min. break that u dont get paid unless u didn't take it....shouldn't u ask first before u quit? clear the misunderstanding first?

No, you don't have a legitimate gripe. Hourly breaks are not realistic nor required under the law in most states. If one of my employees complained as much as you do, they wouldn't be my employee for very long.

with this attitude you will never work for over $10 an hour , you are lazy , you don't need a break at all , a 30 minute lunch is more than a lot of us get . to answer your question - no you do not unless you work hard labor to where you need a 15 minute water break

Go in person to the nearest Department of Labor-Wage and Hour Division, and ask to speak to a representative. Make sure you tell him/her in full detail what is going on in your job and see what they say. Good luck.
