"Original sin" is a concept of some Christian denominations that you are born with sin because you are a descendant of Adam and Eve. As for the Sussex Coast, could it possibly be some reference to water and the breaking of water when one is born?

Sounds to me like a bunch of spoiled rich kids ("well-dress’d, well-born, well-fed, even at nine a perfect gentleman") beating the crap out of another boy. And no one really noticing what their "nice" young boys are doing...("Mum, the Persil-user, still believe that there’s no Devil and that youth is bliss? ")
