You aren't going to an Ivy league school with that kind of GPA, or even a top state university. But you definitely can go to college. There are a LOT of schools that accept people with low GPAs, as long as they have graduated from high school.
What you need to do is go into the guidance office at your school and look through a couple of the books that list different colleges by each state. In your state look for a college that is listed as "Least Selective." Those colleges are what are sometimes called "opportunity schools." They are going to give you a chance to succeed. If you dont do the work, then you will fail out, but at least you have a chance to succeed.
These schools tend to have a lot of kids who - for whatever reason - didnt do a great job in high school. So the teachers and the counselors are set up to help students. That doesnt mean that you are going to get passed without doing the work, but it does mean that they will set things up so you have a better chance of passing, if you do the work.
You DEFINITELY can go to college, and graduate. Go for it!
ps I disagree with the guy who claims to teach at a college and says you dont need to go. Right now more than half of all high school graduates in the USA take at least some college courses. If you don;t you will be on the bottom of the pile all your life! On the other hand, I do agree that if you dont feel ready for college right now, joining the Army or Air Force is a good plan. You will get some training, get some more maturity, make money and get a chance to win some great scholarships that will pay for your schooling when you get out.

Colleges have varying admission policies. Some like community colleges will be more lenient. You won't get into Harvard or Princeton with that gpa but there are so many possibilities.
You could even take some courses on the Internet to get good grades and then that would help you to get admitted.

Of course. Just about any community college will accept you. I suggest you do the work for your AA at a community college. Then think about transferring to a state college, if that's what you need for your degree.
On the other hand, you might not even need to go to college. Most people don't. If you are interested in a manual trade (auto-mechanics or hair-styling, for instance) you don't need college. Instead you need a vocational school.
The military is a good way to go for lots of young people who are looking for job-training.
Don't listen to your high school guidance counselor when she says that you've got to go to college. That's bad advice.
I teach at the college level, so I do know what I am talking about.
Good luck!

Yes,
What will happen in many cases is that you will have to take the ACT. In doing this you will add a little concrete to your gpa. Further is will set you up to get a few scholarships. Now it may be tough to get in to some of the bigger schools Like UofM but you can get into a four year university.

Every single community college will, and almost any State University should give you admissions. Don't worry, a low GPA doesn't mean anything.

Boston University's College of General Studies will welcome students with low GPA's if there was a good reason (e.g. learning disability, mental distress, etc.)
