Dude! Even before I saw the details on your question I was going to say Butters. Aw hamburgers! I love that little guy he's so cute!

Either Butters or Cartman.
Possibly Butters because he delivered the best line in south Park during the episode when his parents thought he had risen from the dead and had return to feast on them. After they left a sales woman for him to eat, Butters says, somewhat bemused, 'can't i have some spagettios!" in his girly voice. Hilarious stuff, what a character!
But Cartman is the catalyst for many of the funniest episodes in South Park whereas Butters is merely a tag along, so I would probably miss Cartman more if he were dropped from the television show but Butters is funnier, the jokes at his expense are more subtle and cleverer as Butters is quite a sad character, lonely, abused yet in spite of all this remains upbeat in his nature and is therefore totally likeable, which gives him a layer of authenticity that Cartman lacks.
Kyle is good, too, not because the show revolves around him like Cartman or because he comes up with the funniest lines like Butter but due to his rivarly with Cartman, the battling that goes on between these two provides some of our best laughs and without him, Cartmans antics wouldn't nearly be as hilarious.

I ADORE Butters! He's so sweet and innocent! But I like Cartman too, especially in Cartman Gets an Anal Probe, the first S.P. I believe. He could have both feet fall off and deny it! Another fave is when he sings "Kyle's Mom is a B****.
I suppose one of the dumbest things (some people think) is that I have all of the discs, watch them often, and am a 58 year old gramma.

I like 'sweet and sour pork' guy in the episode when the Huns were trying to invade South Park, so they built a city wall (which he pronounced "chitty wall" .....
