do my homework but I can't seem to buckle down and do it. I find every excuse. I'm tired now. I have to run this errand first. Let me call so-and-so first. I have a full-time job and the only time I have to do home work is at x time. When x time comes I don't feel like it and it doesn't get done. Now I'm behind in all my classes. I want to pass my classes. I want a degree. I don't want to make $8/hr for the rest of my life. I love to learn. I just hate doing homework. I know nobody can do it but me but does anybody have anything to say that might help?

I am a master procrastinator, too. I am 41 years old, have 2 degrees, and crammed my way through over half of my college experience.... but then something happened, and things began to click into place.

1. Set goals. if you have 4 chapters to read by the 20th and it's the 15th, figure out how many pages you need to read each night.

2. Make a place to study. yes, doing stuff in front of the tv or with the stereo blasting can be done -- but you will get finished faster if you have a more calming atmosphere.

3. Find a study buddy in a class that relies on a lot of memorization. If possible. If not -- figure out how many terms you need to review a night -- and always review the terms from the night before before you go to new terms.

4. Try to set up a certain time slot. Might be difficult if you work a lot. Try not to do other activities (laundry, etc.) while doing homework -- most likely if you try to combine the two you won't get much done on the homework side.

Find a book or class about study skills. Most people are not taught study skills in school -- and it helps to find that there are different strategies to learn, and to use the ones that fit best to your learning style.

I went to college right after high school. It was a bad decision because I wasn't ready for it. I'm 23 now and I'm still not ready to go back yet, actually 25/26 is usually a better time to go back because most people are usually more mature by then and take college more seriously. Yeah I may be a little behind what "society" says I should be, but I am not following anyone's timeline except my own. Everything in time.

I do know that I will go back eventually, I don't like working at my crappy minimum wage job. But I know that if I were to go back now, the money would be wasted. Maybe I'll find out that college isn't for me, and if it isn't, no biggie, plenty of people have succeeded without college. Its interesting that so many people who didn't go to college often end up making more than college graduates.

The decision is yours to make, maybe you should take a year off and then go back. Its good that you want to, now make the time to do it. Like you, I love learning and I hate doing homework too, but now I see it as just one of those things that I will have to do, like taking out the trash, I hate it but it must be done. So just do it, after all you don't want to be making $8/hour for the rest of your life.

I am making less than that at my current job and trust me it sucks major. I don't know if there is anything that anyone can say that might help, you already know all the pep talks, its just the matter of doing the actual thing that's tough, and that's something that we all have to deal on our own. Believe me I have a hard time being motivated as well.

I have an advanced degree and I may never work anywhere again, including a McJob because I would be fired for technical violations of the rules. I do have a mental illness but as evident on my performance in the Math category, my mental illness helped me earn those degrees - I'm a joke otherwise.

I suggest buckling down and focusing on smaller goals which lead up to the big goals. You're going to have to do homework but do it in a style that satisfies the requirements. I spent little time on homework as well and I still graduted in the top 50 at the Engineering school.

You need to reward yourself for doing what you should do until you have formed good habits. If you get into this routine, it will help. "When I've finished an hour on this, I can have five minutes to call Gina," or "I'll get on my psych paper for 90 minutes, then I will rest for fifteen minutes." That's how I did it, and I had two kids to raise all alone along with the full time job. I called it "cookie-ing myself along."

This is just one of those places you have to buckle down, hon, and do what a grown-up does. If you want to dress well later in life and have pretty things, and not have to dress out of Wal-Mart forever, get busy. Good luck!!

Well, I think you proved your own point. If you aren't doing your homework, you're only hurting yourself, and you WILL end up doing poorly in classes. Set a time and don't let yourself do anything else at that time, or until then, unless the work is done. I don't think you're question is why you NEED to do homework- you know why: to do well in your classes! It'smore of a question of what will motivate you to do it!
