from Seattle to Vancouver and Victoria. When I say land, I mean not flying-ferries would be okay too, but I'd like to know about train service and how long it would take by train, by ferry, etc. More information the better.

The Victoria Clipper is 2 3/4 hour passenger trip to Victoria. It is the closest to a downtown to downtown trip. $70 to $100.

If you have transportation within Seattle then the Anacortes ferry is $16 cheap. The trip is 2 hours or 3 hours depending on stops. It is a car ferry, and goes to the outskirts of both areas. I think the logistics start to get too much unless you can drive to Anacortes, an hour to 1.5 hrs? North of Seattle. There is also the Port Angles Ferry, but looks just as difficult if you aren't driving.

The Amtrak answer is accurate. A 4 hour trip to Vancouver with the one daily trip. But watch your booking as doing it on line they will also sell you a 3.5 bus ride.

Greyhound also goes. 4 hours - $27

I have taken the clipper and Anacotes routes. I recommend the Clipper. I would love to take the Amtrak trip sometime.

Amtrak has one train per day between Seattle and Vancouver. The northbound leaves Seattle at 7:40 A.M. and arrives Vancouver at 11:35 A.M.; the other way, the departure time from Vancouver is 6:00 P.M. and it arrives Seattle at 10:05 P.M. Looks like the one-way fare on the train is $37.

Amtrak also seems to have four Seattle-to-Vancouver buses available per day to supplement the train service, and it looks like the one-way bus fare is $28. I doubt these are actually Amtrak-branded buses; rather, it's probably Greyhound or a similar carrier and Amtrak's just selling tickets.

At any rate, keep in mind that in order to cross the border, you'll definitely need at least to have a photo ID and a certified copy of your birth certificate, but a passport would be an even better thing to have.

Amtrak does not operate in Canada. In booking an Amtrak trip from Vancouver B.C. to say L.A. there is a bus connection between Vancouver and Seattle as part of the Amtrak system.

Since 9/11, trains do not go through/over the border. But you can connect. Check both Amtrak and Canadian Rail.
