Is texas (the state) in the south or west, detail answer?

Well, we flew the "Stars and Bars" over all our land in the Civil War, so I guess that makes us from the South (with a capital "S"). If you look at us on the map, we're dead center between east and west, so that precludes us from being in the west. I've always thought of us as being midwest, but those guys over in Ohio, hundreds of miles northeast of us think THEY'RE from the midwest. In collegiate sports, we used to belong to a conference called the Southwest Conference, but that folded years ago. So, the way I look at it, we're in Texas, a place so big and beautiful that geography should be named after us, not our location after geography!! God Bless you.

Texas is in the central portion of the US. And is the southern edge of the central portion. Parts of Texas are in the southwestern portion of the US. Though generally the states thought of as southwestern are Arizona and New Mexico. For more detail we are west of the Mississippi, south of Oklahoma, east of Arizona, north of Mexico.
