watch for a change in facial expressions -

But for example if a person laughs or smiles a lot - that person is probably nervous - therefore probably lying.

If a person is telling the truth - their eyes will turn up to the right (if they are right handed) and to the left (if they are left handed) upon thinking.

A perosn telling the truth is more likely to make eye contact than someone who isn't.

Look for fidgeting. Constantly being uneasy in their seat. Or a woman playing with her hair or rings ect.

Notice the voice. It is hard to tell lie so the voice will change. It is a bit higher when the person is lying. A perosn lying is more likely to stutter than someone who isn't.

Hi, Swinman,
If there was, we wouldn't need lie detectors (and they aren't even foolproof) ....
Individual people, may have a 'tell' or some characteristic specific to their behavior.... The one most cited is the inability to look someone in the "eye" while lying... A conscious effort can negate this, though...
>>>>>
If you are looking for a gesture specific to one person, you will need to observe them closely.... Do they twirl their hair when they lie? Maybe they blink a lot or pick at the seam of their jeans...
>>>>>
Keep in mind : that some people are just accomplished liars that have had time to practice their craft... It would be very difficult to determine what is truth and what is falsehood in this case....
>>>>>
Maby, I shouldn't have told you...Now we know that if you're staring us down, that you really did break the lamp ;)
>>>>>
Thanks, for the question!;)

My regards!

Totally depends on what they are talking about, how confident they are, and how well they think they know you.

Don't believe this other people that are going to make you try and notice which way their eyes are pointing or you will miss the voice inflections of when they doubt themselves.

If you are concerned about street intereactions don't pay attention to body language, pay attention to how much they are trying to build up your confidence and belief in their words. A person who isn't trying to convince you of anything, won't use any words along the lines of "trust me".

Someone who is lying to you will avoid making eye contact. Expressions are limited to mouth movements when someone is faking emotions instead of with their whole face. When someone smiles naturally their whole face is involved. Liars are uncomfortable facing their questioner/accuser and may turn their head or body away.

one way, supposedly, is if they won't look you in the eye. there is also a specific direction that a person moves their eyes (I believe it's to the right-their right-but you would have to verify) that actually indicates they are lying. try it on yourself sometime. notice that when you move your eyes up and left, you are usually trying to think of something, up and right, or right, and you might be lying!

If standing, they shift their body weight.

In their eyes, can they look at you? Or do they look to they side?

Someone who is telling you the truth is going to look at you and not try to defend themselves in their body language.
Someone who is trying to lie, hide the truth by not looking at you or laugh.

If they look down and left thats a sign of thinking in your frontal cortex or where the part of the brain is where you make stuff up. I saw that on TV once.

if someone looks up to their right side it means they are looking to the creative side of the brain which usually means tehy are making up something and lieing. If they look up to the left they are trying to look into their memory to see if they can recall what the truth is
