You probably have something muted in your sound mixer. Open it by clicking the sound card icon and unmute everything but the mic!

Most laptops come with three volume controls, 2 of which are software based and 1 that is hardware based. There should be an electronic volume control or dial on your laptop somewhere.
I you have a little speaker is at the bootom right-hand side of the Windows taskbar then the sound drivers are installed to verify that they are working type "sysdm.cpl" in the run box and click ok. Or press and hold the windows logo key and press the break key. Then Hardware and Device manager. If there is no ! on "Sound, Video, and Game Controllers" then the sound is working.

I'll go through a few things that it could be, please bare with me :).
You say you've checked your settings, I assume you've checked mute and stuff...if you have a program like realplayer etc check that the volume is up on that as well. Now that we've got all the setting back to normal, check if there's anything stuck in the headphones port (sounds stupid but it happens) and if there isn't, try putting some headphones in to see if that works. This is a surefire way to check if your speakers are broken or your sound card is playing up. Please let me know what happens and i'll help you from there! :)

Most likely you don't have a sound card MAYBE check if you do if not then well you'll have to get one if you do most likely in the Control panel under sounds and audio devices click it and look at the device volume if its set to mute or the volume is far left then thats your problem you can also check the speaker volume check to see if its far right.

I accept as true with pisces...Do a technique restoration. by using reality your technique have been given right here with domicile windows 7, I heavily doubt the drivers will artwork effectively for XP by using fact each and everything is extra contemporary than XP whilst a technique comes with 7 and there are no effectively signed drivers for XP. So try the device restoration as pisces mentioned: F3, F11...Or something different key or mixture. examine the technique instruction manual would desire to you even however have it or look on line for it on a similar time as you have gotten your approach walking so which you would be able to desire to on the least see how you could actually do it if youin case you won't have the ability to make certain it out.

I assume you're trying to play a music CD on your cd reader on the laptop. Make sure all drivers are installed. Double -check your sound device under hardware/device manager and make sure there isn't a yellow exclaimation mark next to it. Does the CD play on your stereo system?

Do you hear other sounds, such as windows making its usual beeps and clicks? If not, check that your soundcard is installed correctly, and try reinstalling its drivers. You could also check the soundcard manufacturers website for updates.
