I should imagine that they are at least a protectorate like many carribbean islands, hence Britains effort to quash the Argentine invasion.
It was discovered by the British in 1592. However from then to now it has been a French settlement in 1764 and was then sold to Spain who recognized Britains original claim to it in 1771, The British started resettling in 1833.
- So yes I think it could call itslef British if not at least European!

The British kicked Argentina's *** in a 3 week war to maintain dominance over the Falklands. I remember; I was recovering from a tonsillectomy.

Argentina has never had control of the Falklands! They tried to take over the Islands, but were beaten by the British!

Argentina has never even had a legitimate claim to the islands!

Just as much as St. John, St. Thomas and St. Croix are American. Soloman Islands too. Puerto Rico, used to own the Philippines too. Did some nasty genocide there.

As opposed to fakely? It's under British political, legal, and military jurisdiction with international recognition, even if the Argentinians don't like it. So yes.

They had this war with Argentina in the 80's to keep them British, so unless someone takes it from them, Yes.
