Ok - I believe that compassion and understanding heal people rather than harsh punishment. However, I also feel a responsibility to protect me. The following is the e-mail

Hi, my name is Nova, and I run a pen pals website for prisoners at www.originalallrightsreserved.com. Because they do not have internet access, I place ads for incarcerated men and women on my site, in hopes of attracting people who might be kind enough to write one of them a letter-- many of these prisoners have lost contact with their families and friends over the years. Some people believe that prisoners are getting their "just desserts" when they suffer from loneliness and are separated from their loved ones. However, I'm not one of those people, being that my own husband has a life sentence, and I see first hand what he goes through. I am also a school teacher in a semi- urban district, and many of my students have a parent in prison. My website will be used partly to generate money that will be given

to a child with a parent in prison who needs help with purchasing school clothes, books, etc. All I am asking is that you check out my website and maybe pick a person who you wouldn't mind writing to-- it's free, and you wouldn't believe the difference a piece of mail makes to these men and women. Please be 18 and over! Thanks for your time! I apologize if you've received this email twice...

For those of you from another country-- the prisoners on my site are from the United States and there are a few from Canada

I once wrote to an inmate as part of a sociology class in college. We wrote to each other for about a year.He always said he looked foreword to my letters. But,it didn't take too long before he was asking me to send him money or to send him things he needed.I didn't do any of that. The real scary part came when he was about to be released and asked if he and a buddy that was also getting out could come and hang out with me till they figured out what they were going to do.I ended the letters right then. Then I thought what a stupid thing I did, this man had my home address. He wasn't in prison for a violent crime, but a criminal none the less.Luckily I never heard from him again.I don't know what I would have done if he had just showed up at my house after he was out. While it is nice to try and help someone, which is what I thought I was doing, you have to think of your own safety. Please be careful.

No! _ BUT !
This idea crossed my mind ,to aid someone and advise or just relay MY life and concern for them. But the stylistics just don't hold that these individuals change their life after release.
Then there is this:: they commit a crime they know it was a crime:: But MY tax money goes to support them, educate them provide health care as good or better than most. I have met only a women that had been in jail (prison) and i would not continue to converse with her. If a method to establish a trust was available I might consider a friendship even assistance - I just can't see how it would work.
Good luck on your project.

How did you get the email?

I am always leary of any email from someone I do not know. I know there are alot of scams out there. I have not heard of this one. I probably wouldn't do it since I do not know anyone in jail. I am sure there are good people in jail. At the wrong place at the wrong time, or defending themselves. If I knew them personally, I would.

I think I would rather send cards to kids in a hospital to help them feel better.

they're human beings yet they're in detention center, no crime no time, so they have performed something to be in there. i in my view does not pick to try this or have my toddlers try this. there are a number of greater human beings obtainable that i'm particular might quite pick to have you ever as a pen chum, mines became from Malaysia and we stored in touch for years by ability of letter (formerly the pc). We despatched photographs and informed one yet another approximately our international locations and we found out plenty approximately countless issues, a prisoner has an exceedingly constrained get entry to to life different than his previous. do you unquestionably need to circulate there.

Safety is a big concern. Don't do it. Plus the money thing at the very end makes it sound like a huge scam.
You want to do good, good for you. You also have a responsibility to look out for yourself.

i would have to agree with the ppl who feel these criminals are getting wht they deserve. I onve wrote letters to an old friend of my mom's,and he was a registered sex offender!!! So,I will have to say, that no,I would not write to anyone in jail/prison, for safety reasons... I wish u luck though. It sounds like your heart is in the right place.
