There are ways to adjust the angle that you are photographed at.

We need more info. Is your face too shiny? Is your smile weird? Hair all wrong? Bags or circles under your eyes?

Shiny face: (of course) have a daily regimen to clean your face, if you don't wear makeup per se, at least invest in some loose powder and a makeup brush. Dust powder on your face to absorb any shine.

Smile: It sounds silly put practice. If you have access to a webcam or digital camera, try out different smiles or faces and then go back and look at which one looks the best. It sounds crazy but it will help.

Hair: Without more info, we can't really help specifically. In general, keep hair tangle free and shiny. Avoid fly aways and frizz at all costs. If the cut or style is wrong, go to a stylist. They may even suggest color changes.

Bags/Circles under eyes: Always get enough sleep, always drink a ton of water and if you can't fix it that way, invest in a good concealer. Neutrogena and Physician's Formula make good over the counter types. If you have a little more to spend, go to your nearest department store makeup counter (Lancome and Clinique are good) for help.

Are there photo coaches? You bet. People who compete in beauty pagents consult those types of people all the time. Just be prepared to shell out some cash because their fees are steep.

Where make-up, change face wash or whatever else to boost the brightness and skin color of your face. What exactly is ugle about them, the smile-adjust your smile then. I look like a complete different person in all my pics. I notice my pics look a lot better in sunlight, so that's when I take them now.

before you take pictures "practice" your photo face by having a friend or someone take digital pictures of you. (you'll see if you get too squinty or if you smile too big etc.).

that should help with at least the smile..

take "myspace pictures" so you can discover your best angle.

^^
hope it helps
