Take a piece of paper and form it into a funnel shape with a tiny hole, just big enough for the fly to enter. Pour something that ferments such as beer, wine or vinegar into a glass. Put the funnel over the glass and tape it to seal the funnel to the glass. The flies will swarm to the funnel and be trapped in the glass and die. Works in about an hour if you stay away.

The most important thing you need to do is find the food source and eliminate it. It is usually rotting fruit or vegetables. Clean up any spills from the rotting food, too. It may take some detective work to find the real food source. When my mother became ill and unable to take care of the house, we kept seeing lots of these- in the winter. We cleaned the kitchen, emptied out and cleaned all the kitchen cabinets, no luck. We put up fly strips, bowls of vinegar, all the home remedies we had ever heard of. One day my husband went on a "hunt". He went down to the basement and started looking in every corner. He found a bag of potatoes that had probably been there forever and had probably billions of fruit flies and hardly any potatoes left. It was gross. But we threw them away and that was the end of the flies.
Good Luck!

This happened to us, when some potatoes went bad.
Pour 1/4 cup of cider vinegar into a jar. On top put a paper cone pointing down..the flies fly into the cone and walk all over the jar, can't fly out..
Some just walk around the outside of the jar, I just opened a window and shook it. Took about 4 days.
You'll be amazed at how many come out! You think you have a dozen but they'll be 50!!

Not sure what you mean.. ARe the flies(fruit) IN YOUR house? or outside your house.. If they are in the house.. how did they get in? I they are IN the house, you should keep(as I am sure you do) all sugary items away and then spray them with a good fly spray.
If on the outside of the house.. they would be drawn by fruit trees primarily and if you have fruit trees, keep the ripened fruit picked and rotted fruit(on the ground) picked up.
Another method that I have heard of but never tried is: fill a small bowl with red wine vinegar and a few drops of dish soap. I set it on my windowsill near the fruit, and the fruit flies are attracted to it and drown. .
