I'm fairly certain turtles burrow for the winter, but if you bought them at something like a pet store, I suggest they be taken inside, they are not used to wild surroundings and might not know what to do.

usually they do hibernate by using burrowing into the airborne dirt and dust in the event that they are far adequate north. they do no longer migrate and are strictly clean water turtles so they won't proceed to exist even close to the sea. I even have had various jap painted turtles as pets earlier and by using the iciness we stored them in the comparable tank with water and land, and used the comparable heating lamps on precise of the habitat to maintain the turtle's physique warmth intense adequate because of the fact they are chilly blooded. they'll usually decelerate during the iciness and you may no longer be demanding if your turtle isn't as energetic. All you may do is merely keep the tank heated and feed the turtle as familiar. (you may word that its apatite might decrease somewhat too.) Turtles make cool pets and that i'm hoping this helped you out. in case you need to any extent further questions then you somewhat might attempt going to a interior sight puppy keep. reliable luck and take reliable care of your turtle.

In the wild turtles burrow and hibernate for the winter. If your turtles have an area where they can burrow deeply enough they will be fine most likely, but if not you should provide them with a warm indoor habitat during cold weather.

I was thinking about the same question yesterday, I found one walking on the road near where I live in New York. What a coincidence. The turtles hibernate in colder climetes, just like frogs, snakes and some other similar animals.

Get an aquarium and bring them inside. I assume these turtles aren't huge.
