red sand or red dirt? there are several places around the world with both; the red color comes from iron oxidation and/or is also found in soils that have a lot of clay content. as someone else mentioned already, Hawaii has red dirt (not sand, really, if you consider sand only the stuff by the ocean, although Hawaii does have green and black sand...), Alabama is also famous for red dirt. Colorado has a mountain that is red on the top from iron oxidation. As for around the world, I'm sure there are many.
