1 carbon atom = Meth
2 = Eth
3 = Pro
4 = But

(the ending depends on what type, but the simple ones end in "ane so the first will be Methane etc.)
It is hard to describe other molecules names without diagrams, and I'm afraid I don't know any websites.

Arrange the hydrocarbon into the longest possible chain of carbons. Count the number of carbons and use the appropriate prefix. If it isn't a ring and doesn't have a double bond between two carbons, its name will end in "-ane"

Like prop ane is a straight hydrocarbon with 3 carbons.

C1 = methan
C2= Ethan
C3= Propan
C4= Butan
C5= Pentan
C6= Hexan
C7= Heptan
C8= Octan
C9= (????)
C10= Decan

It depends on whether you've only got a hydrocarbon or which functional groups are present. If only you could be more specific...
