Like all people, sometimes one speaks prior to giving it any thought.

Because it's the truth. If you look back in history, the false prophet Muhammad threatened kingdoms and nation-states to convert to Islam or "prepared to be conquered".
The Pope was just simply going over history and stating what somebody else has already said a thousand years ago, not insulting Islam. The Muslims out there, crying and rioting, is just doing that out of an excuse not out of reason.
Just like the stupid cartoon riots, these uneducated Muslims just wanted to rioted and wanted to murder out of a crazy, twisted excuse, and any rational minded person knows this and it seems that we do not have too many of that here(referring to the some of the idiots who answered before me).
Every time we appease and apologize to these radicals, then that is another victory to the Islamic fascist. We are fighting a war here people and it's time to wake up. These guys don't want peace to non-believers so lets stop with the political correctness, bull sh** and not worry about OFFENDING THE SAME RADICAL KILLERS WE ARE FIGHTING!

A cartoon in a Danish paper can get all Muslims pissed at the United States. They can call for the killing of all Christians but we can't say a word against them.
The Pope is fed up with killing in the name of religion. Killing is the act of savages. Specially when he knows that those religions are usually peacefull.. Maybe he wants Muslims to step up and demand that people killing in the name of Mohamed stop doing so, and make peace. Modern day Popes are peaceful men, and it gives them great pain to see killing on a mass scale such as is going on now, in the name of the Muslim religion . What is going to change the world opinion on Muslims ??? Start protesting the savage killing on a mass scale. If al quaida doesn't speak for you then protest like you did for the drawings of your profit in the Danish Papers..Because they are doing all that killing in the name of Allah and Mohamed.. This I think should be offencive to Muslims.. unless what the Pope said is true..

I believe the pope was trying to bring up the subject of SOME, not all, Muslims waging jihad using violence and that it needs to stop because it's wrong, the way he did it blew up in his face and of course people need pick there words carefully to try and say what they really mean, this is especially true for delicate subjects. Using a quote from the time of the crusades was a really bad idea. What he really should have done was condemn all forms of violence, political, religious, and otherwise.

He said he meant it. Leave it at that. Despite what the Spokesman says. Does the Spokesman know what the Pope thinks? Probably not. Let the Pope make up his own mind, and believe him when he assures you he means it.

Someone with some backbone and morals needs to say it. Again, I believe that he is referring to the extreme religious groups of haters and murderers or those who plan to kill others do to hatred. What is so wrong with calling those people out and telling that their behavior is wrong. What is wrong with anyone for believing that. We all think it, except for the groups that plan to kill or want to hurt others due to hatred or religious differences. Those people are crazy. It is just petty not to be able to speak your mind about something--in this way. Did he say all Muslims or people who practice Islam? I don't think so. I think people want to make something bad out of everything and keep the fight going. Fck it all!! IT is gone too far and there is no hope. When the pope can not say that killing and extremists groups that kill are wrong, then it is a sad nation.

He was reading a quote by a king who lived a few hundred years ago. Why he read that line knowing how touchy Muslims are, I'll never know.
One thing is sure - - - Muslims can insult in every way that comes to their mind, but if anyone says anything they don't like, they make all kinds of noise over it.
That shows their weakness. A strong person can take all sorts of jokes or insults, showing little emotion. A weak person screams and yells, and seeks revenge.

He was probably generalizing but you have to realize that he was discussing a religion, some of whose member believe in a holy war against non-believers.

If I understood correctly. he was trying to point out how much further relations between religions has come by reciting from some emperor's letter. The muslim terrorist heard what they wanted to hear. The muslim terrorist are just looking for something to whine about and an excuse to blow themselves up.
