I'm 36 1/2 weeks pregnant and the last week has been hell! I've had horrible contractions but labor just won't start for me...and since I'm not full term they won't induce labor! Is there anything I can do that can push me into labor? Anything I can do to make me start to dilate? I need this baby out or I'm gonna go insane!!!

I am 39 weeks and have tried everything (sex, walking everyday, raspberry leaf tea, spicy foods, driving on bumpy roads, etc...) I've been doing all these for 2 weeks now and have been 2 cm and 80% effaced the whole time. I am beginning to believe hes not coming until ready. Believe me, I know how you feel :(

I am 38 weeks pregnant and I know how you feel. I feel horrible and just walking around the house is painful. You can do all the regularly suggested stuff, (sex, spicy food, nipple stimulation) but it has been my experience (this is my third pregnancy) that all they do is cause contractions but no labor. Additionally, at 36 weeks your doctor probably knows best about not inducing you. There is still a chance at this point that the baby's lungs are not fully developed. Just try to relax even if worse comes to worse you only have a few more weeks. If there really was a safe yet surefire way to get that baby out trust me, it would be pretty well known.

There are a few different options you have to induce your labor.
1. Have SEX.
2. Nipple stimulation.
3. Drink red raspberry leaf tea (the fresh form).
4. Take 1-2 evening primrose oil pills per day
5. Take either black or blue cohosh root extract either mixed in juice or just straight extract, 1 tsp every 6 hrs.
6. There is always walking.
7. If none of the above work, you body is not ready, and you shoud just wait.

Sex sometimes helps just remember the longer you keep that baby in the better it is for the baby. right now it isn't about you and what you want but what is best for that baby. 40 wks is the target and what you really should be focused on. Stay as comfortable as possible go walk around the mall and have sex. Otherwise be patient my girls are 4 and 3 and if I could go back to being pregnant instead of this age I would in a minute.

we all feel that way honey but you have to wait. the baby will come when he/she is ready. they won't induce until 38 weeks I know I tryed to get my dr to induce from 33 weeks on. until I was 36 weeks and 5 days when my son stopped moving. they took him by c section after 14 hours of labor and his cord was around him neck 3 times. so only if your baby has something wrong will they induce early

According to the Dr. Spock site, you're still too early to induce labor. Your body and the baby are not yet ready, which, I know, is no consolation. Jennifer is right as regards having sex, and I can tell you, as a father of two, that helped distract my wife. Hang in there, and basically, distract yourself till 40 weeks.

There is a chemical naturally found in semen that helps the cervix dilate. While it helps it happen faster once it starts - you still have to wait for nature to start it. Your baby isn't ready to live outside of the womb until at least 38 weeks. For that babies best chances of survival. Sooooo, have lots of sex to help dilate once it starts to happen.

Sex. They say semen causes the uterious to contract. I was 2 weeks late. My husband came home from the army on a 2 day leave. Needless to say he got to see his son be born before he had to go to Korea for a year.

i was told Milk of Magnesia. But only one dose. Girl- I went to one day shy of 40 weeks! Be patient. The baby will come when they are ready. They are in there for a reason. God will get you through the pain.

There are a few things that can make you dilate....even a few over-the counter herbs-but this is unadvisable as you should let nature take its course. Everything will be okay very soon. I hope that you and your baby will be happy and healthy together soon. (on the outside together, that is) hang in there.
