WOW....that is awful ...she is not your friend ...drop her a ss quick....you know what no matter what you share with someone if if that person is supposed to be your friend then the should support you no matter what their personal feelings may be about your venture...now also keep in mind that a true friend also will not let you make an a ss of yourself either....get some more opinions about your singing...ask some people that you know will be absolutely honest with you no matter what...now if she is saying that she feels sorry for those who have heard you sing ..that is totally uncalled for ...she can be honest without being a b itch !!!!!!!

To answer the first part of your question, yes. Some people put other people down as a coping-mechanism when they are feeling lousy. Kinda like having sour grapes (sorry for the cliche)
Secondly, no matter what she has to say just keep singing, she isn't exactly a reliable source (from her above discussed history).
When I was in school I was a bit nerdy and considered a freak, yet once I started my tertiary education I "blossomed" and became a success (in every aspect of my life) that I had always hoped for...did I become a different person? No, what made the difference was the people that I began to surround myself with. That were (and are) encouraging and motivating. I think you need to gradually cut her out of your life and begin to surround yourself with people who are healthy for you and who encourage your passion. All you have left to do there after is watch yourself blossom...KEEP SINGING GIRL!!!

whoa! that was strong. I think your friend is really jealous of you. By any chance is she a Sagittarius?
As freindly as Sagittarius are they can't seem to keep friends around for long. Every Sag I have ever come into contact with has the same type of outlook. They don't trust anyone, they think they know everything, they tend to be very negative when giving their opinion and that reminds me, they also give their opinion when it wasn't asked for. They tend to be too honest and it causes people to be hurt or offended by the absolute truth. In other words, they shouldn't be so damn blunt. A lack of brutal honesty is not necessarily dishonest. It is a matter of discretion. Also, they tend to have a low self esteem themselves.
That might be why she's telling you those things. Because you make her look bad. Hey, if you want to be a singer, you get out there and nock their socks off. You can do it! You go Girl!

That is quite possible. However, take this bit of discouragement as an opportunity to receive some constructive criticism.
She may or may not be right.
You could do many things to become a better singer.
One thing is to do daily vocal warm ups and exercises.
Find someone to give you voice lessons and they can help you to find your best voice and singing style.
Dont be mad at her. If she is right and your voice improves you will surely thank her. If she is wrong then improving your singing voice is a good thing. You can STILL thank her=)
Dont give up on your dreams.
My life has improved more from criticism and finding help than if I received lots of empty flattery!
Cheer up! You just mayb have a true friend!

Most likely!! But if you are strong enough to follow your dreams, then you should be strong enough to not listen to the people discouraging you!
Good luck with singing. I love to sing too.

No I think people who are too weak to follow their own dreams will actually be more encouraging to you following your dream and gain courage from seeing you try to reach you life time dream. Have you ever thought that your friend may be jealous
of you and does not want you to reach your goal and she doesn't want you to become famous.

I believe that its on occasion true depending on the person. As for the singing if you are truly non biased you should try recording yourself and then make a decision or ask a different friends opinion

woooowww.....you kinda have the same problem as me. but not a lot of people tells me i suck. but you know what? if i were you, i would just ignore them and keep practicing and follow your dreams. don't think "oh i suck" just cuz they think you suck! if you think YOU have the ability, then DO it! don't listen to them! they might be jealous, but i wouldn't listen to them. just go on and and follow that dream! they're not GOD to tell you that you suck. just believe in yourself yo. i bet they can't sing better than you! tha'ts why they tell you that you suck. just leave them! they can't even sing better than you! that's what i believe. cuz i had this same story...
okayy..i was singing at my music class and then everybody was whispering to each other telling them that "i suck". "well? let me hear them sing then if they think i suck!" that's what i was thinking. my friend told me that they said i suck, but i just went leave them alone, so they never did anything to me. they'll get tired telling you "you suck" if you just ignore them. they're holding you back from getting your goals in life.`
