If you've got an anti-virus program, do a full system scan.
Do the same if you've an anti-spyware program - scan your hard drive (usually c:)
If you can stay on the net for long enough go to http://www.ewido.net/en/ and do a free online scan for malicious code

Good luck!

Probably a virus. Especially since it is tied to being on-line

You really didn't give enough info to be sure. But that is what I would look for.

Scan with anti-virus (http://free.grissoft.com if you don't have one)
AdAware and Spybot (http://download.com and search for them)
Remove what ever they find.
