"When I was 18, I was embarassed of my father's ignorance. By the time I was 24, I was amazed at what the old man had learned in 6 years!" Mark Twain

Yes, with education our kids are likely to be smarter. There is the possibility also that with inherited genes from the gene pool of the mom and dad that the kid could actually be more 'intelligent" than his or her parents. I think that is to be celebrated. It is the job of the parent to provide an environment and opportunities that allow a child to reach full potential. The child then can quite possibly far surpass the parents.
I know this occurred with my son.

It is a fact of life that children may be more intelligent than there parents. But I've found that even when this is the case, parents often deserve and recieve resect for other things. Smarts arent everything... and a mother who can counsel her son on how to deal with a bad break up, or get a good job interview, may be worth more than a mother who knows how to text a friend.
Parents can be intimidated, but its probably more becuase their children have gone where they cannot follow, rather than becuase they wish they knew what thier kids knew. Or, being humans, they dislike being in the dark.

each generation is an expert on their own generation. When things change then the next generation learns about their own generation.
You can't compare one generation to another.
I mean like your generation might know a lot about computers, but should computers ever go down and we go back 20 years, then "my" generation will know more than yours.
I don't think the older people are fearful of what the younger people know, however as you get older you do get more frail and being frail is scary, but it has nothing to do with knowledge.

My kids are all smarter on certain subjects, which they are studying or upon which they are building their careers. As a result, I am very proud of them. But as to being smart overall, then I'd say no. Experience counts.
Plus, I'm bigger than they are, and as you know, size matters!

You will not be smarter than your parents until you realize how much wisdom they have. You will quite likely one day be smarter than they are, whatever that is defined as in common parlance, but you are nowhere near there yet.

EVERYONE FEELS THIS WAY FROM THE AGE OF 16 TO ABOUT THE AGE OF 27, WHEN THEY FINALLY START TO GROW UP. AT THAT POINT, THEY BEGIN TO UNDERSTAND, THE OLDER THEY GET, THE MORE THEY REALIZE THE LESS THEY KNOW.
