I am so sorry about your friends mum, was it sudden like a car crash or had she been ill for a while, sudden deaths are always the hardest I think, no mental preparation for it.
Just by being there you are helping your friend the most I would say, please try not to feel uncomfortable around her, she has not changed, she is just very very sad at the moment and really needs as much 'normal' life as possible.
Have a good chat with your mum about this if you can, so that your mum can maybe help by having her at your house a little bit more.

If you feel the need to say something, you can tell her you are sorry for her loss. Just being there with her and supporting her, through this tragic episode will give her more strength than words you know cannot be held true. Right now I am sure that she needs her friends around her and needs to be able to talk about her grief.

Tell her you don't know the right words to make everything better. What a terrible thing for a young person to go through. It might be best if you put your feeling in a card. Tell her you will be there for her and want to help in any way you can. I am certain she wants to have as normal a life as possible, so try and just act like you use to.
i can not imagine what she is going through. Appreciate your mom and tell her what she means to you.

Just tell her you are sorry this happened to her and that you are there for her if she needs to talk or just have a shoulder to cry on. Buy her a card that might say something inside as to how you feel for her right now. Cards are nice to give when there are not any right words to say.

Aww, sweety, just being there with her means alot to her. Don't try to hard to say anything to her though, just tell her that her mother is with her forever in her heart. Just being there and giving her comfort is alot for her, what she needs is her family and her close friends. Give her alot of hugs and just be there with her, i can't stress enough on how much you just need to be with her right now. The pain will never really leave her, but she will soon enough come around and be her self again, or at least somehing close enough to her self.

Hi Lorraine!
The best thing you can do is tell her that youy are so sorry and cannot immagine how she feels. That you love her and are there for her to talk or whatever. Help her by being there. You are a sweet girl to care!

When my mom died I always liked when people simply said I am sorry about your mom and I am here for you if you need me.
