Absolutely brilliant series! I want more (Serenity was good but not like watching a good series)
I think Fox is the distributor, does anyone know if they're looking to give the green light on another series?

20th Century/Fox (a studio) owns the production rights to Firefly. Fox Networks, a separate entity within the same company, had paid to broadcast (distribute) the series when it was initially produced/aired.

When Fox Network cancelled the series, the network basically gave up distributor's rights. Joss tried to shop the show to a number of different networks after cancellation - 20th Century/Fox was more than willing to keep producing the show if Joss could find another broadcast network.

But the show, at about one million dollars per episode, was too expensive for any but the four premium networks (CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox), and the ratings were too low on Fox to support airing on such a network.

Keep in mind that networks have to sell advertising in order to make money. This is different than studios, which typically make no money on the first airing of a series (basically trying to break even), but make money selling the shows for syndicated reruns and DVD sales.

Universal bought the production rights from 20th Century/Fox to make three theatrical releases based on Firefly. But the first effort, Serenity, simply didn't do well enough in the box office to warrant sequels.

I love the 'verse and I would love to see more Firefly - but it's not going to happen, outside the comic book genre (Joss has indicated he is putting a new comic book series together).

Last I heard, Joss Whedon who created the series, has given up on the idea of continuing the show because of network worries over lack of viewers. there was an orchestrated fan campaign to get the show back on air including full page ads in American newspapers and internet emails but this has had no effect so far. There may be another movie continuing on from Serenity, even though not all the cast will be returning.

I would like to see more of the events leading up to the movie Serenity. Watching the movie gave me the feeling that there was a lot of story that took place between it...and the end of the series...
I would love to see Book and Wash again as part of the series...and why Inora left the ship...and much more...

I wish
Didn't get to see the series until after I'd seen the film then discovered I could get the series on DVD. Gutted that there was only one series. Another good one that only lasted one series was Space: Above and beyond.
