Our elderly neighbor says she has very sensitive ears, and my BF's music is too loud. Her daughter came to our door and got quite nasty with my BF. He really dosent play it that loud. He also does not want to use headphones all the time. We are not breaking local or association regulations, but I do not want more problems with neighbors than I have already had(dog problems with another neighbor allowing their dog to poop in our yard every day) Moving is not an option.

Living in multiple unit housing means dealing with the neighbors, and it can be trying to say the least!
You may not think the music is too loud, but maybe the bass carries through the walls or floor and disturbs the neighbor. Your only choice would seem to be turn the music down, use headphones, or get an ipod and just keep it all personal listening, if the neighbor has gone on record telling you the music bothers her and you still continue to play the music too loudly for her taste, you risk getting noise complaints from the police or landlord, which could result in court appearances or eventual eviction.

So you live in a house? You said you have your own yard, so maybe you live in a house. IF so, do not go to the door.
If you live in an apartment, still you don't have to go to the door. IF you are positive that they are just being picky or rude, then do not worry about it. You could always go and visit them, when your boyfriend has his music on and see for yourself what it sounds like in their apartment. That way you will know for sure. Then ask them what they are talking about. Let them explain. Then make your argument that you do or do not know what they hear or are talking about.
Going to their place, when they come and complain is the only way for you to really know what they hear there. If they refuse to let you in, then tell them to stop hassling you. Tell them to leave you alone if they don't want to settle it nicely.

Be a good neighbor and turn it down. Music doesn't have to be loud to be good...and I personally like earphones. Trust me, you might not think it is loud, but if she thinks that enough to have someone come over to talk to you, trust me, it must be. And, if you really can't stand that situation then you should move - far away from neighbors.

It may not be the volume. It may be the bass. My neighbor 100 feet from me used to shake my house with their bass. The poor elderly woman across the street thought she could get away from it by removing her hearing aid, but the house shook. So what you may think is loud, may be very annoying to the neighbor. Have you bothered to go over to her house to see how it sounds to her? This may improve neighbor relations.

When you get older, at least in my case, you lose some ability to hear high pitched sounds. The mind tries to compensate, by amplifying low pitched sounds more (the bass drums).

I can hear these even when others say they cannot. Her daughter was wrong to get nasty, but not wrong to ask to turn it down.

Talk to them, and negociate a time when it might be acceptable to play loud music.

what it is is the bass that annoying.that the low sound, if it a cement house,or wood worst ,the whole room /walls makes the thumping sound louder,(check out side )best is move speakers away from corners ,and put a foam sheet (walmart ) under speaker,(wont shake the floor)
