It took not '75 years' to ban slavery, it took a war. A belief that all men are created equal was nice, but the ability to form a unified nation right after winning a war with the most powerful nation on the planet at the time (Britain) drove many compromises, not just about slavery. The important fact is that the inequity of slavery was eventually rectified at the cost of 650,000 lives in the civil war.
Yes, Jefferson had slaves. I believe they were all set free when he died.

I don't know, how come Africans sold the Africans to the English to bring over here on their ships? Now why should I care? My family didn't own slaves I know this because my family wasn't here back then. So because of this I don't feel apologetic for slavery. What is the purpose of this question, do you feel you found out a piece of information that nobody else has?

You might well ask why slavery was ever acceptable in the first place. The reality is, many of the ideas we consider reprehensible now were at one time or another completely acceptable everywhere in the world. Fortunately, human beings usually learn from their mistakes. Now, if only we could successfully pass on those lessons to future generations instead of them having to repeat history...

We have more freedoms then other countries, but truly it is not the land of the free. There are so many laws, ones that are not stuck to, ones that do not protect us. We have freedom of speech, but can be penalized for being too forward. It is getting worse and worse, so the land of the free is not totally true.
