Muslims saw some cartoons, they went berzerk and started burning things and killing people. A man makes a film depicting the treatment of women within islam, his throat is slashed and is stabbed over 40 times.

People in the West have evolved to the point where we can agree to disagree, to have a civil discourse, not responding with violence when confronted with words or ideas. Why havent the Muslims evolved this far yet?
In order for Islam to cross the bridge into the 21st Century, either the followers of Islam will have to reform their religion to a non-violent belief system (A religion of Peace, but only mean it this time), or there will be a larger confrontation between the West and the Barbarians looming in front of us. The world is getting smaller, oceans no longer protect us. The World is not large enough to have a pluralistic liberal society that values liberties and free speech, side by side a culture that kills anyone who "insults Islam".

Im afraid youre confused, Freedom of speech DOES mean just that. Have you ever seen "SouthPark"? or is it banned in Turkey? When will Turkey end the "Illegal Occupation of Byzantine Land?" or atleast the illegal occupation of cyprus?
Thank you for the reformation Quotes, im not catholic BTW, however, perhaps you can see the need for an Islamic Reformation, Since you already saw the need for the protestant reformation of the past. I rarely agree with the pope, but I must agree with him on this point about Jihad (which was really Emporer Manuel's point from the 14th Century)
The Republican Brotherhood in Sudan have been trying to reform islam for years. But their leadership keeps being assassinated for some wierd reason. Muhammed Taha stood up to the fanatics (demanded equality for women among other things), and got killed for it. Islam must be reformed if it is to cross the bridge with humanity to the 21st Century

What i have seen with muslims and most liberals, there is free speech for when they are talking but when some one other than they are speaking then there seems to be a lack of freedoms.

Islam a religion from desert region where every thing including water is scarce developed in a way that 98 out of 100 will be subjects and one will be chieftain and one will be mullah those 98 will will always be kept like slaves on the name of Allah and of course the Sword.Where is the place for free speech there?this is same thing like Catholic church 500 years back.

Typically, religion in general can not handle free speech. One of the fundamental things about organized religion is that it actively tries to convince you that its views are the correct ones. As such, they must point out that all other religions are inherently wrong.
To use "free speech" to contadict this idea flies in the face of what they believe. Faith is a very strong motivator. It has led to more deaths throughout history (both from Muslims AND Christians) than any other reason.
Religion is, by definition, narrow-minded. Which is particularly odd for Christianity, since Jesus preached acceptance of others and turning the other cheek. I think his followers have forgotten these.

It is simply against the law for a Muslim to speak freely.
No different than our laws forbidding rape and murder.
We have a few criminals and so does Islam. Occasional a Muslim will say something like God Morning to a infidel It is the same as murder. He will be caught and punished for speaking to a Western person.

Muslims can't handle free speech? What would the reaction be if you replaced Mohammad with Jesus Christ as a result of the Bush administration's terror and support of terror in the name of Christianity? There would be much more protests than there are over what the pope actually said. You need to step back and take in what this man actually said. He is putting down an entire religion and it's followers for political purposes. He should be ashamed of himself.

Their culture has not evolved in 2,000 years. Ours has been evolving since the Magna Carta. It still has ways to go but at least it is on the way.
Imagine what would happen if Madonna was insulting Islam instead of insulting Christianity with her sleazy antics!

I dont think it is as much as free speech as it is the truth!!! For example look at cora the lawyer, tell him the truth and he will threaten to sue you!!! Muslims and damnocrats hate the truth and are confused over free speech as it applies only to their side of the argument

It's not a matter of evolvement. It is a matter of propaganda versus protest...
When you are the one being propagandized against over and over and over again, then when you add to that the fact that you watch these lies continue no matter how often they are corrected... eventually violent protests are the only way.
This is just the way it works... when peaceful protest are failing, humans turn to violence..
