SSI is different from SSD. SSI is a supplement if you fall below the amount allowable made per month. SSD is if you have a permenant disablity (by their guidelines). For both you must apply to your social security office in your area.

You will have to have a doctor state that you are disabled. Then you have to go to the nearest Social Security office. Call them first because you will have to bring a lot of paperwork with you. That will start the ball rolling.
Many people have to apply more than once. When your application is accepted, don't expect benefits immediately as it doesn't work that way.
The sooner you start, the sooner you will know if you are eligible.

You can go on line at www.ssa.gov and start your application and get the necessary information you need. You will have to prove your disability and show that you have no means of income or savings. If you are married your spouse can't have a good income. If you have paid enough social security insurance then you may qualify for regular disability. this will be explained to you at their web site. Good luck.

No, SSI isn't taxable and he doesn't opt to record it. SSI isn't qualifying income for the stimulus rebate both - social safe practices incapacity is, so be confident which it really is. If that's social safe practices incapacity and under no circumstances SSI, he can record this year and be eligible for the stimulus rebate, even if if that's is in worry-free words income he doesn't many times ought to record a tax go back for it.

You need to either go to or call the SSA and ask for an application that is your first step. You will need your doctors information and to make things easier and possibly faster if you can get copies of your medical records to turn in with your application. The process is very long... months and in some cases like my moms years (5years). Don't give up if you get turned down b/c a lot of the cases go into appeals and then you may get it. best of luck

Contact your local Social Security agency. It might be necessary to get an attorney in obtaining disability. Your doctor might also be able to assist with getting disability. Good luck.

watch this video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=ryCTIigaloQ then ask yourself how you can stay off disability and make a meaningful contribution to the world instead of being dependent on everyone else to care for you. If you are in worse shape than this person, then perhaps you deserve to be on disability. If not, get off your butt and start living...
