I told my boyfriend to grab a paper towel to soak up the blood and he took me literal and instead of grabbing a towel or something to keep the blood from dripping all over the floor he went thru his house to open a back room to peel a paper towel out of a plastic package. I dripped blood all over the kitchen floor, all over the bathroom and in 2 sinks while he searched for a paper towel. I finally grabbed some toilet paper off roll and put pressure on my gushing finger. What do some men think? Am I being too harsh? A kitchen towel would have worked, but I didnt know which drawer was the towel drawer. He slowly went about opening the paper towels. By the way, I am a nurse.

I was in his house and I do not know where he keeps things, I assumed he would open a drawer or pull a paper towel off a roll since we were in the kitchen. If I were at work, I would have kept my hand under water and washed it with some betadine and then put pressure on with a stack of guaze. Home is not exactly the same as a hospital. Of course, I could have grabbed the 1st thing I saw which was a kitchen towel.

I agree, I was too harsh. I bleed like crazy and for no reason. Last year I had 6 stitches in my finger after I busted a glass I was washing with my hand in it. It was so bad, I thought I was going to need a transfusion. I still have the blood stained kitchen towels from that one. Hahaha!!! I am terrible in the kitchen. Both times it was my pinkey finger.

I would guess he panicked. He's not a nurse, so when you (a NURSE) told him to get a paper towel, he took you seriously. My husband is the same way.

Understand where you are coming from. My husband, before children, would slowly saunter to the area I needed his help. After children, he panics. My oldest girl got her thumb caught in a door and was bleeding a lot. He went through lots of paper towels, before he drove her to the band-aid station. I came home and found blood everywhere. The kitchen, the front door, the hallway. I am now panicked trying to find out which child has been hurt and how. Before the children, his military training was what motivated him. He moved, just slowly. Don't know why your boyfriend was moving that way, he may have taken you very literally as to needing a paper towel, since you are a nurse. Next time, if there is one, tell him I need a towel (any kind).

Well, we're all in agreement here, he didn't react very well, but, seems to me that a nurse should have gone ahead and done the things she's been trained to do while b/f goes nutty trying to find something to help the woman he cares for, who's bleeding all over his kitchen..
Was this the first time you've been in his house? If not, why didn't you just wrap a towel around it, or even your blouse, or, for that matter, take one of his shirts...
When I was living in FL, a young friend, got his dad's gun and fired a round through their screen door, another young girl was outside the door and wound up with a bullet through her thumb.. My shirt worked perfectly well to stop the bleeding.
Next time, use your training to help yourself.. and, see a doctor about that bleeding problem, it ain't normal!

OK let me get this straight, you are a nurse and instead of applying direct pressure to the cut with your bare hand while your boyfriend searched for some paper towel and when he just kept searching you did not tell him never mind about a paper towel just get me a towel, you just bled all over the place???!!??

Why did you mess up the whole house with blood when you could have held it over the kitchen sink or trash can ? Did you hold your finger higher than your heart and apply direct pressure? As to the question, "what do men think"....uhhhh.....not much and not often.

Yes, you are being too harsh. If it were me in the situation I would probably be really nervous about you getting cut. This would effect my thought process' and make me look pretty dumb too. At least he was trying to do something for you with your gushing finger. Thanking him for his effort would be a great idea.

well, in your BF's defense, some people do not act efficiently in an emergency situation. Their brains go on tilt. It is not necessarily his fault. it just may be the way he is "wired". Just keep this in mind for the next time and give him more specific instructions. more options. He may not realize his options until told.
(Hope CSI doesn't come over... there'd be some explaining to do) hee hee hee

so if you are the nurse - why do you expect him to do things quickly- you are used to being under pressure not him--
