How much do detectives get paid a hour?

I'm writing a book and i was wondering if someone could give me a website i could go on for information on detectives or NYPD. Its going to be a mystery. My book i mean.

I get a hundred dollars an hour...plus expenses....which pretty much means everything from coffee and cigaretts to paying for information.

If they work for a local municipality or for the federal govt they are usually paid on salary w/benefits.

detectives generaly get paid for solving a case or providing onfo, they may not be paid as hourly basis.
