This question foolishly assumes that the President of the US has anything to do with the economy. I'm going to let you in on a little secret. The President has almost no control over the economy!!

The Federal Reserve , Congress and OPEC have a much bigger role in how the ecomony is going.

The president alone does not make decisions on how the country runs. The Congress (House and Senate) can veto anything the president proposes plus it is all overseen by the Supreme court to ensure that decisions are constitutional. The system is not perfect but it is the best one to date. What we need, though, is what our founding fathers envisioned - Congress being run by those for a short time, then replaced. We do not want nor need a group of politicians in for life as that is where most of the special interest problems come from.

Presidents have little to do with economic conditions, other than their policies affect on consumer behavior; such as raising taxes/decreasing gov't spending, or vice versa.

Typically, economists agree that the economy should dictate which behavior a government should engage in. When the economy is good, the gov't should increase taxes and decrease gov't spending; when there is a recession, taxes should be decreased and gov't spending increased.

Only if the politicians are replaced with people not connected to special interests, and then not for long - only until until they cave in to the same group/s.
