I formatted my computer and now when I start it up after two minutes everything freezes up. The computer won't respond to any command. What could it be? Is it the hardware? I did not upgrade any software or hardware! Yes, I tried ctr alt delete, even that doesn't work.

You said you formatted - did you reload an operating system? One hopes so. If you did was it the same one? I am taking a wild guess that you had something like Win(* or WinMe, you formatted the drive and loaded WinXp. For XP to work properly you need at least 256M ram which you probably do not have plus an 800mhz or better processor. You also need mose drive space than you had before - you should have at least 20G but that would be a minimum or don't expect to load too many programs. If you do not meet all of the above then it will continue to freeze.

First I would reformat it again. Reinstal from the recovery cd(s). I would then go straight to the internet and do a windows update. Get all the service packs first. then work on the other CRITICAL upgrades. Also look for new driver. it is an option of windows update. If that doesn't work, go to the MFR website and see if there is an update for your BIOS. Look under the SUPPORT option in their website

it could be a hardware problem. when you start up does your p.c. make any unfamiliar beeping sounds? before it freezes do you see a blue screen?

make sure your video card and RAM is securely fastened to their slots. they might have become loosened which sometimes cause start-up problems.

you mentioned reformatting your HD. why did you reformat it in the first place, were you experiencing problems with it before? maybe some sectors of your HD became bad, in which case you might have to replace it. if you have another hard disk handy, try installing your OS in that HD first.
