It was filmed in 2004 but is only getting general release this month. Any idea why some films take longer to release than others?

$$$$
There are many reasons.
It could be copyright infringement. There could be a general legal battle taking place.
A production company may not be prepared to back it sales-wise at the box office. As I'm sure you're aware once a movie is made it has to be promoted with publicity.
It may clash with a better movie with the same star/stars.
The star may not be hot property at the time.
The completed new James Bond film 'Casino Royale' is supposedly being held back for release in 2(007).
As I say it's all $$$$.
